ABOUT THE BISHOP
Bishop Glenwood H. Young was born in Buffalo,
New York on September 30, 1938. He is the son of the Late Reverend
Oliver Young Sr. and Nancy Bradley Young. He received his formal
education in the Buffalo School system.
Raised in the Church of God in Christ, Bishop
Young accepted Christ in 1957, at the age of 17, at the Open Door
Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the Late Elder.
P. A. Mann. Two years later he acknowledged his call to the ministry.
In 1962, he was drafted into the United States Army and served
as a Medical Specialist until 1964. He served as a Medical Specialist
and acting Chaplain in the Army Reserves until 1966. Bishop Young
was ordained as an Elder in 1964 at the hand of the Late Bishop
W. G. Shipman. His ministry was greatly enhanced by the training
of his father Elder Oliver Young Sr., Elder P. A. Mann, and Bishop
W. G. Shipman.
After the death of his father Elder Oliver Young
Sr., in June 1968, the then Elder Glenwood Young Sr.
lead the congregation of the Good Samaritan Church of God in Christ
until he appointed pastor in January 1969 by Bishop Leroy Anderson.
Bishop Young has served the church in many different offices over
the last 45 years, as a local Sunday School Superintendent, local
Trustee, district Sunday School Superintendent, District Superintendent,
Jurisdiction Trustee, Chairman of the Jurisdiction Program Committee,
Elders Council Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Elders,
and the Administrative Assistant to the Late Bishop C. H. McCoy.
On Monday, September 30, 1996( his Birthday),
he was chosen and appointed Bishop of the Second Jurisdiction
of Western New York by the Presiding Bishop Chandler D. Owens,
with the approval of the General Board of the Church of God in
Christ. Bishop Young was consecrated on Monday, November 11, 1996
in Memphis, Tennessee during the 87th Holy Convocation.
He and his wife, Pauline Beasley Young are the
parents of one son Glenwood Young Jr.(Shavette) and grandparents
of one grand daughter (A`yanna).
